Fear

2011 has come to an end and 2012 is here and filled with possibilities.  For me a year ends and begins with a lot of self reflection, and it was during one of those moments that I became aware that I live in fear and am filled self doubt.  I fear pursuing my dreams, I fear stepping out of my comfort zone, and most of all I fear that I will be a complete failure at anything I try.  These thoughts are not uncommon but it wasn't until the other day that I realized how much I am missing out because of my fears.

So I made a decision, this year will be about the courage and strength to overcome my fears.  It will not be an easy task, and I'm not sure where I'll start, all I know is that I'm up for the challenge.

Side note: This is not a typical post that one would usually find on my blog.  In the past I've been scared to get personal (fear that people would not be interested in what I have to say) but today I said fuck it and wrote and shared it anyway.

  5. I agree, it's good to hear what's on your mind and heart!
What a great resolution. The best kind, in fact. I have wrestled with similar demons and, in my case, I came to the realization that my fears were rooted in growing up with a critical, perfectionistic mother. So whenever I hear those voices in my head, I have to consciously over-rule it. I was just talking to my niece about this the other day. She said she was afraid to do something she really wanted to, and I said why would you let Fear make your decisions for you? Fear has caca for brains. And 80% of the time, the thing we fear never comes to pass anyway.

Chatty kathy. Sorry. It suffices to say "Hear, hear!" and "Good for you!" I'll be cheering you on. :)

  6. I agree with all of the above comments. It's nice to hear a little more from "you." Perhaps infusing more of yourself into the blog would be one way to overcome a fear?

Good luck, for serious. I think all of us hoomans live in fear, and it's not often we can recognize it so openly. Kudos to you, friend!

  7. I often feel the same - scared to change things, scared to try something new... just in case it all goes horribly wrong. But we don't know unless we try I guess...

I'm going to try very hard to have more courage and strength this year too - so at least we know we're not alone now :)

Good luck and a happy new year to you

p.s. I love that you wrote this too - I did a similar post a couple of days ago (with my word) and felt much better for it.
